Nicole and Matt Hays Fairytale Destination Wedding at the Arthur Hills Golf Course

The Arthur Hills Golf Course Wedding Venue holds a true magic in its vast fairways, lush nature and tropical atmosphere. Nicole and Matt Hays chose to have their Hilton Head wedding right here in Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort. Read Nicole’s thoughtful testimonial about her wedding planning experience with our team and insight into the couples special day.

Nicole and Matt both reside in Marietta, Georgia – just outside of Atlanta. With many of their friends spread out across the country, they wanted everyone to be able to take a mini vacation. Matt and Nicole ultimately knew they wanted to have a destination wedding of their own in a place that felt special to them.

A Hilton Head Wedding Venue with Community Appeal and Island Charm

Nicole told us, "My family and I have been coming to Hilton Head annually since 1996, with Matt joining us when we began dating in 2017. There is something so special and beautiful about the low country during the winter – the weather, fewer tourists and overall “vibe” of the island is why we landed on a February wedding at Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort on Hilton Head.”

“We’ve stayed in Palmetto Dunes a few times during our many trips to the island, and it was really important to us that we picked a location that had a community appeal and where all of our activities could be easily accessible and within minutes of each other. As guests at Palmetto Dunes, you are so close to the beach, golf, tennis, pickleball, and restaurants that we loved the feeling of our guests not having to travel far for our wedding weekend festivities and the ability for everyone to stay centralized within Palmetto Dunes.”

“Aside from the sole ambience of driving into the resort (I mean, the view from the first bridge you drive over – wow!), our deciding factor in choosing Palmetto Dunes was the variety of wedding venues (different designs and “vibes” that you could create matched to you) and the catering menu options. We loved that everything was packaged together (food, alcohol, venue, décor) in our proposal which made it so much easier to determine the flow of the day and what special touches we could add on,” Nicole said.

From the draw of the island charm to the proximity of the beach and vacation amenities, they landed on getting married in Palmetto Dunes Oceanfront Resort.

Why Arthur Hills Golf Course was a Perfect Match for Nicole & Matt’s Special Day

While our Palmetto Dunes Catering & Events offers a variety of Hilton Head Wedding Venues here, Nicole and Matt found that the Arthur Hills Golf Course Venue was the perfect choice.

The Arthur Hills Golf Course Venue offers an incredible golf course view ceremony, accommodates 120 guests tented and 60 guests in the indoor & outdoor patio space. (Our new venue space, The Veranda at Arthur Hills, can accommodate up to 160 guests.)

We asked Nicole what their deciding factor was in having their wedding at the Arthur Hills Golf Course and she told us... “The view! It’s just stunning! We had so many options for how we could think about the layout of our ceremony and reception at the Hills Course that choosing this location was a no-brainer for us. The grounds are so nicely manicured and maintained, and there was a place for our wedding party to hang out and leave their belongings in the clubhouse so they didn’t have to travel with everything on the day-of.

Walking out from the clubhouse and overlooking the driving range was amazing and we could immediately see ourselves getting married here. The ability to have multiple “locations” for our special night at the Hills Course allowed our guests to spread out and take in the beautiful backdrop, while looking forward to the next event of the evening.”

Each part of Matt and Nicole’s Hilton Head wedding flowed beautifully with the help of our team, Sarah Nelson’s Photography showcased the love held in each moment throughout the night, and the wedding ended with dancing under a beautiful moonlit night as they began their new chapter together.

A True Testament to the Palmetto Dunes Catering & Events Team

Nicole stated, “Sarah and the rest of the catering staff were so helpful in painting the picture for us – holding the ceremony on the 10th hole tee-box, enjoying hors d'oeuvres and cocktails next to the putting green (our guests loved having a fun activity!) and setting up our reception tent on the driving range.”

“If I could do our wedding all over again, I wouldn’t change a thing but make it last longer so we could continue to savor the special day with our loved ones!

Working with Palmetto Dunes’ staff gave us such comfort and really brought our dream wedding to life. To this day, I still get comments from our guests about how organized and beautiful the day was, and how the food and service at our wedding was the best our guests had ever experienced – a true testament to the Catering & Events team!”

A Special Recognition Given to the Wedding Vendors

A wedding is all in the details. Nicole wanted to give a special recognition to these vendors that helped make her day unforgettable. She told us, “Our ceremony arbor designed by Carri Prange of Wedding Arches of the Lowcountry was a showstopper! We loved being able to repurpose our ceremony arbor and use it as the backdrop to our sweetheart table at the reception. I can’t tell you how many compliments we received on how stunning this was – especially with the contrast of floral colors against the green golf course backdrop. Additionally, Kayla and her team at Sweet Magnolias Floral & More absolutely crushed our décor and florals – we had a variety of candles, votives, ivy and other non-floral items mixed in with our floral arrangements which provided a great variation of textures and colors at each of our reception tables.

Wedding Planning Tips from the Bride

Nicole offered a wonderful planning tip to future brides to help break down the extensive list a wedding can entail. She said, “I thought about planning our wedding in two stages: logistical (planning and securing vendors / contracts) and design-focused (vows, floral, cakes, wedding favors) which helped me stay organized and really articulate to our vendors what our vision was for our special day.

For brides, I strongly recommend you use this downtime to think about how you want the morning of your day-of to look. Think about any catering needs you’d like for you and your bridesmaids as you’re getting ready, nailing down transportation to the venue and the flow of photos, purchasing gifts, writing thank you’s and other cards.”

Congrats Nicole & Matt! Thank you for your testimony and for choosing Palmetto Dunes to host your special day.
